How about clothing? Once I create the right array, I could sew it into an outer robe. Or a jacket or something. It's not uncommon where I'm from to have certain protections built into one's robes. I could give it a color indication or perhaps it'll warm...but that's probably too close to your skin, isn't it? And you'd have to be wearing it.
Adequate? Adequate! Please. You asked for something that can detect poison on a weapon and I am going to find a way! I'll make you the other first. That'll be simple and easy. It's not the array that would be difficult for the second anyway. It's the figuring out how to apply it. If you had a weapon in hand, it would be a simple thing to touch it with a talisman. It's a very different thing to identify a weapon in your enemy's hand.
But difficult doesn't mean impossible, have a little faith in me!
Please do not take this as an opportunity to be creative. I did not mean an enemy a weapon is holding, I mean a weapon that has broken one's skin.
( look, no one except sasuke has been able to tag him with a weapon in years, and he was near death's door then — he is not concerned with the weapons that miss. )
[The words sting his pride just a little and he frowns, but doesn't immediately reply. The point is to help Itachi with something he's asked for and so he sets his stung pride aside.]
I can make you a talisman that will change colors if it touches something containing poison. That'll apply to a human body or a weapon in hand.
[The change in him is instantaneous, Wei Wuxian groaning and placing a hand over his face in embarrassment. Obviously they use throwing weapons.]
I knew that! I may have forgotten. Sorry, I got carried away. For that a simple talisman will suffice. Something that will change color upon contact with poison. In that case I'll only need to construct the array. Give me a few weeks and I'll see what I can come up with.
I know. I mean the I know the part about you not being critical, not the part about them not being poor, I am pretty sure some of them were poor, I have many poor ideas. It's part of my process.
I was just trying to figure out how you'd test your enemy's sword while it was in his hand. I don't even use a sword anymore and I still forgot not everyone uses them.
Swords are not entirely uncommon within the shinobi ranks — I used one during my time with ANBU. It is not a poor assumption to make. Being familiar and comfortable with a wide array of weapons is something many strive for.
Additionally, there is every likelihood we will encounter individuals in various worlds that do use swords and perhaps poison as well.
I'll still mess around with the idea. It can definitely serve a purpose.
Cultivators only use swords or cultivation. And archery I suppose. Anything else is unacceptable. Cultivators expect that everyone will play by their rules and fight fair. Throwing knives and needles, they exist, but they're looked down on.
When I stopped carrying my sword I couldn't walk 10 feet without someone having a fit over it.
I'm pretty sure the lack of foresight, preparedness, and inefficiency would cause you physical pain.
It doesn't exist for them either. They're all hypocrites. They hire their assassins in secret and preach righteousness to the world in the same breath. They didn't condemn my demonic cultivation until after I had won a war for them. They were happy enough to let me fight on their side until it was over and they remembered their righteousness. Your world sounds far more honest.
Human nature is the same regardless of where you are. People are petty and cruel and care more about themselves and their station and their power than they do about others. The exceptions die young.
Even at my most naive, I don't think I ever believed otherwise. I may be surprised by the technology and innovation of the worlds we visit, but I will never be surprised by human nature running its course.
Enough of that though, I've got several ideas running through my head on how to begin your array request and I need to put them to paper. I'll let you know when I've got something you can work with.

Something that can detect the presence of poison in blood is adequate.

I apologize.
I was unclear.
Shinobi are more likely to throw senbon or kunai that have been coated with poison, or use gas bombs.

Your other ideas are not poor ones, they are just not what I am interested in for my purpose.
It was not meant to be censure of your skill.

It must be a pleasant fantasy they live in, if they expect others to fight fairly. Such a world does not exist for my people.
Physical is an exaggeration. However, you are correct in that it would annoy me.

In others —
