It's not as if he can place a talisman on his opponent's weapon mid battle. It has to be something applied quickly.]

How about something you could intentionally allow to be pierced with your opponent's weapon? What could you reasonably make a target in battle? Something small enough not to cause you problems but large enough to take a hit?
